What is hypnosis?

Contrary to popular belief, hypnosis is not a state of deep sleep.  It does involve the induction of a trance-like condition, but when in it, the client is actually in an enhanced state of awareness.  The therapist is able to suggest ideas, concepts and lifestyle adaptations to the client, the seeds of which become firmly planted.

Hypnotherapy aims to re-programme patterns of behaviour within the mind, enabling irrational fears, phobias, negative thoughts and suppressed emotions to be overcome.

How Does It Work?

Hypnosis works by bypassing the usual conscious resistance allowing access to the subconscious mind. This is the part of the mind that can make changes to self limiting beliefs which are responsible for the troublesome behavioural patterns which are affecting us negatively. For example, a patient who consciously wants to overcome their fear of spiders may try everything they consciously can to do it, but will still fail as long as their subconscious mind retains this terror and prevents the patient from
succeeding.  Progress can only be made by reprogramming the subconscious so that deep-seated instincts and beliefs are abolished or altered.

Here are some facts about being in a hypnotic trance:
* You do not surrender control
* You are not asleep or in any way unconscious
* You can’t be made to do anything you don’t want to do, reveal any secrets or go against your beliefs or principles
* You can talk, open your eyes and become consciously aware at any time
